The town of Alagón (7 000 inhabitants) originated in the Iberian city of Analtun, which was located around the Plaza del Castillo. After the conquest by the Moors of the valley of the Ebro in 714, Alagón became an important city of al Andalus's Upper March. From this period of Muslim domination, which will end in the th century by the Christian conquest led by Alphonse i of Aragon, the city inherited the magnificent mudéjare tower of the San Pedro church, located at the site of the ancient mosque.
