The Roman origin of Utebo is linked to the foundation of Caesaraugusta (Zaragoza), probably between the year 24 and the year 13 BC according to historians. As its name indicates, the city was on the eighth thousand of the Roman track. After the re-conquest of Zaragoza in 1118 by Alphonse i of Aragon, Utebo incorporates the "Dominicatura de Zaragoza", composed of about fifteen villages subject to the authority of the capital. It was only at the beginning of the twentieth century that Utebo finally reached independence and became a fully fledged commune. Today, with about 20 000 inhabitants, it attracts visitors with its famous mudéjare tower, probably one of the most beautiful in Aragon.
