Superb village with a population of just under 200 souls, set on a solitary peak surrounded by the plains of La Ribera. Its delightful medieval streets lined with coats of arms lead to the church-fortress of Santa María (National Monument). While there is no certainty about the origin of this solitary village, legend has it that a shepherd witnessed an apparition: that of a dove entering and leaving a hole in the rock. While following it, the man would have discovered a cave sheltering a statue of the Virgin and Child. When he reported his vision to the men, it was interpreted as an injunction from the Virgin: a village must be founded here!
