An almohaof fortress of the xiith century, at the top of a 33-meter hill, will be your first vision, long before arriving in Montemolín. And you will understand immediately why this last stage in Extremadura was a strategic enclave on the border between this region and Andalusia. Located south of Badajoz province, this village of more than 1,400 inhabitants was reconquered by Christians in the thirteenth century and passed under the direction of Santiago. Subsequently, it will be sold twice: first to Genois bankers by Felipe III, in payment of the crown debts vis-à-vis these creditors, and then in 1819 by Fernand VII, to his brother Carlos. But the village will become independent very quickly. Today, surrounded by the Nuestra Señora church of la Concepción, whose mass dominates it, it is a village to the predominantly rural economy, surrounded by the rolling beginnings of Sierra Morena.
