Mleta is the last village before the ascent of the Col de la Croix and the ski resort of Goudaouri. On the left bank of the Aragvi River, it is a village with defensive towers, historic farms and an old chapel. The road, dominated by the titanic mountain massifs with imposing gradients, untouched by any human traces, seems to lead to the end of the world. The 2,395 m high pass of the Cross takes its name from a cross planted in 1824 by the Russian General Alexei Iermolov, which replaced the original cross, installed in the 12th century by King David IV the Reconstructor. The view on the way down is grandiose. Stop at the pass to drink water from a spring known for its purity.
