Travel Guide Sno

From the main road, in the village of Archa, if instead of continuing on Stepantsminda you turn right, you go down into the Sno Valley, enclosed between high peaks and very spectacular. It is the most important of the secondary valleys of Khevia, it is wide and majestic. In the village of Sno, the famous watchtowers on the mountain walls still stand. Erected in dry stone between the 12th and 17th centuries, they guarded the passage between the North and South Caucasus. In case of unwanted visitors, fires were lit at the top of these towers: an ingenious means of communication and warning.
