Djouta, at the end of the Sno valley, is like a world apart. After Ouchgouli in Svanétie, it is the second highest inhabited place in Europe: 2,200 m above sea level. Situated in Khevia, the village is nevertheless inhabited by Khevsoures - Khevsourétie is on the other side of the Tchaoukhi massif, a few hours' walk away. The Georgians come back in good weather for religious celebrations - because the Khevsoures practice a pagan religion tinged with Christianity: worship of ancestors, of nature... From there, one can make the most beautiful horseback rides, towards the Tchaoukhi mountain and towards the village of Rochka in Khevsourétie, via the Tchaoukhi pass.
