In the Para district, Zanderij is a town (or perhaps almost a village!) in the northern part of Suriname, 50 km south of the capital Paramaribo. Although it boasts a mosque built in 1964, Zanderij is best known for its nearby Johan Adolf Pengel airport. Located on the east-west interconnection road with the south of the country, the airport is off the capital (allow at least an hour's drive, more depending on traffic jams), but you'll have no trouble getting there, as it's always straight on from Paramaribo. Buses also make the journey.
