Part of the Oudenaarde conurbation, Ename is a small town of less than 3,000 inhabitants. It is best known for its original abbey, of which unfortunately only ruins remain. Its brewing heritage has survived, so you can enjoy an Ename triple ale produced by the Roman brewery, founded in 1545 by the Roman family for 12 generations. Its Provincial Museum of Archaeology is not to be missed. Here you can see the ruins of the Benedictine abbey, the fruit of the vast archaeological digs undertaken by historian and archaeologist Adelbert Van de Walle in search of the vanished castrum.
