"Prémeaux" is said to come from "first waters"... quite a feat in this region! The name is linked to the numerous springs discovered in the area in Gallo-Roman times. They contributed to the town's economic dynamism from 1927 until 1970, when mineral water was bottled. As for wine, there are no grands crus, but ten premiers crus, including eight clos: Clos-de-la-Maréchale, named after the wife of a Second Empire officer, Clos-des-Argillières... Don't miss the two 13th-century churches containing classified tombs.
