This small village of 385 inhabitants was mentioned by Honoré de Balzac in his novel Les Paysans (under the name of Ville-aux-Fayes). The man of letters liked to go there from time to time, to visit his friend Charles Lautour-Mézeray. There are two main monuments to admire: the chapel which was originally part of the 11th century church (razed during the Revolution), and the eponymous 15th century castle, of which only a tower remains. The village is bordered by woods and vineyards - these cover twelve hectares
