The Montigny-sur-Aube area, located between Burgundy and Champagne, comprises 16 communes and over 2,000 inhabitants. Boasting a rich natural heritage of forests in the heart of the Ource and Aube valleys, this canton is also one of the gateways to the National Forest Park, which will come into being at the end of 2019. Its undulating landscapes and clayey limestone soils are ideal for growing vines to produce red and white wines, as well as the famous Crémant de Bourgogne. Numerous archaeological treasures have been discovered here, including 12 polished stone axes and a Hallstattian burial site at Fontaine Naudot. From an architectural point of view, the area is also richly adorned, with the Templar commandery at Epailly farm, its churches and its washhouses. In Montigny-sur-Aube alone, there are 4 washhouses and 3 listed bridges across the Aube. Montigny-sur-Aube also boasts an elegant Renaissance château, built in the 16th century, adorned with colonnades, beautiful English gardens and a magnificent chapel, all of which have been listed as historic monuments since 1961. The anvil and hammers on the village coat of arms symbolize the town's main activity: metallurgy. In fact, the oldest ironworks in the Côte-d'Or was established in Montigny-sur-Aube in 1202. Today, metalworking has given way to agricultural work. Incidentally, Harry Truman (President of the United States from 1945 to 1953) spent several months in Montigny-sur-Aube in 1918!
