On the road from Potes to Fuente Dé, in the Deva Valley, this tiny village of barely 60 souls offers the opportunity to stop for a break before setting off again on the winding road. Surrounded by lush green mountains, it exudes a picturesque charm with its traditional stone houses and nonchalant atmosphere. It is also the starting point for many nature hikes. 5 km east of Camaleño is the monastery Santo Toribio de Liébana, a Franciscan monastery which is said to date from the Visigothic period. It contains the Lignum Crucis which, according to the Catholics, is the most important fragment of the Cross where Jesus was crucified.
