Located on the northern slope of the Lefka Ori (White Mountains), at an altitude of 500 m, Lakki owes its name to the wells(lakkoi) dug by the first inhabitants of the place. According to tradition, the village was founded by rebels from the Sfakia region. In 1866, the inhabitants did not hesitate for a second to destroy their houses themselves to humiliate the Turkish soldiers who were about to take the village! Some cheap rooms to rent (sleeping there instead of in Omalos is not a bad option). In spring, Lakki is a nice place to stay and hike around, in the middle of flowery landscapes.
