The "capital" of Naxos, still spared by mass tourism, keeps its local color and authenticity. Today it has 6,000 inhabitants and was built on the site of the ancient city of Dia. As soon as you arrive by boat, you will see a postcard landscape composed of the majestic marble door of the temple of Apollo and the small church Panaghia Myrtidiotissa, built on an islet in the middle of the port. The white houses rise in stairs from the shore to the kastro. This fortress built at the beginning of the 13th century by Marco Sanudo is the most interesting part of the city with its winding streets, beautiful Venetian houses and flowery squares.
