In 1992, when the Moremi Reserve was expanded north and west, it included Xigera and Sepa. These camps are close to the Jao River, the boundary of the reserve. Channels, lagoons, papyrus, reeds, tall aquatic grasses are the main elements of the scenery. Water-eating mammals and water birds live here: otters, lechwe, but also the discreet sitatunga antelope, heron, bittern, kingfisher, etc. The islands, however, are within reach of mokoro or motor boats and their vegetation resembles that of the drylands of Chief's Island. They are inhabited by impalas, elephants, lions and hyenas.
