Châteauvillain's image is most often associated with that of the 272 ha deer park that makes the walkers happy, but it would be reduced to confine the city to that alone. Indeed, the history of the medieval town, over the centuries, resembles a veritable epic that deserves to be known. Set in the stone of its 2,6 km of fortified enclosures of the 60 th and th centuries, at the foot of its machicolated, at the top of its towers (there were other times), just as in its labyrinth of alleys and round roads, this amazing story seeks only to reveal itself. You can also take the tour of Châteauvillain through the fortifications circuit. You will see the Porte Madame, you will pass in front of the old convent of the cordeliers and you all the beautiful medieval mansions. Coquettement nestled in a curve of the river Aujon, on the boundary of Burgundy, Châteauvillain is also the city of the gardens with water, nestled in the ancient ditches dug in limestone rock. The small museum of the city located in the Audience tower allows to discover, among other things, the mock hall of the city's castles. Guides lead you to the steps of the lords of Châteauvillain: Jean I, the Duke of Vitry, the Duke of Penthièvre (grandson of Louis XIV and Mrs de Montespan).
