For fifty years, Colombey's success as a tourist destination has been based on the story of General de Gaulle, who is still celebrated here, notably at the top of the village hill. He entrenched himself here during May '68. But let's not forget that Colombey is also a pretty village set in peaceful countryside, with breathtaking views, especially from the La Boisserie office. A text from 1108 refers to it as "Colombey où sont deux églises" ("Colombey where there are two churches"). Notre-Dame-en-son-Assomption and the now-defunct Saint-Jean-Baptiste priory once coexisted here. It was this dual presence of religious edifices that gave Colombey its current name.
