Protected by Mount Oiz (1,026 m), the municipality of Ziortza-Bolibar is the birthplace of the ancestors of Simón Bolívar, an emblematic figure of the emancipation of the Spanish colonies in South America, to whom the municipality has dedicated a museum. Another amazing link between this village and Venezuela is the image of Our Lady of Coromoto, the patron saint of the South American country, installed in a chapel in the parish church of Santo Tomás. The village is also famous for its Zenarruza Monastery, classified as a National Monument of Euskadi. It is the only one in Bizkaia to have preserved so many elements (church, cloister, abbot's house, pilgrims' hospital, etc.).
