Situated on the banks of the Jordan River, which forms the border with Jordan, Christian tradition has it that Jesus was baptized here. Since the site was reopened to the public over 10 years ago, renovation and modernization work has included the construction of wooden ramps over the Jordan River. Pilgrims now have easier access to the waters of baptism. Among other notable improvements, the installation of shaded areas for prayer sessions has also greatly enhanced pilgrims' well-being and comfort. The entire site is wheelchair accessible.
