The history of this commune is closely linked to that of Hagenthal-le-Haut. In the 11th century, it belonged to the Counts of Ferrette, before becoming the property of the Hasbourgs and the Counts of Thierstein. In 1456, the lords of Neuwiller settled in the village castle. As you wander through the town, you'll still find an old mill, the Maison des Têtes, which is well worth a visit, and a Jewish cemetery. In 1726, the Sovereign Council of Alsace ordered the destruction of the synagogue built without authorization at the beginning of the century. Finally disused, it was transformed into a locksmith's workshop.
