A region very busy by the high-level athletes for the benefits of altitude training, and former lair of the Moroccan semi-founder Hicham El-Guerrouj of its splendour and Olympic and world medals, Ifrane and its park, 60 km south of Fes, occupy over 53 000 hectares of the western Middle Atlas.Known for its forest of cedar and oak trees, the Ifrane Park has a medium made of medium limestone mountains. Forest of forests, beauty of its landscapes: Ifrane is a jewel, and Moroccans are becoming more aware of it. The park is inhabited by important macaques and deer populations, a species reintroduced in the early 1990 s. There are also some raptors and the red foot crayfish. Between 600 and 700 plants have been identified by botanists.
