Located at 400 m altitude on the plateau of the Zerhoun massif, 62 km from Fez and 33 km from Meknes, the ancient city of Volubilis has the largest and best preserved Roman ruins in Morocco.

The best combination is to book half a day to visit Volubilis and, at the same time, the holy city of Moulay Idriss 4.5 km away. The main interest of the city lies in the state of conservation of its numerous mosaics, which bear witness to its ancient prosperity. It is regrettable, however, that the authorities are not releasing funds to prevent the worrying deterioration of these noble relics of the past. But Volubilis is especially noteworthy for the impression it leaves: to be able to stroll through an open-air museum and contemplate ancient columns and arcades in a vast plain where cultures are spread out as far as the eye can see. Not to spoil anything, the road from Fez is beautiful. A country afternoon in a historical setting!
