Venlo, the administrative and cultural center of the province of North-Limburg, suffered great damage during the Second World War. St. Martin's Church remains one of the few relics of the pre-war era, yet it was also damaged. Architects rebuilt it according to the original plans. The old town hall dating from 1596 has also survived. Venlo is also famous for its asparagus production in the surrounding countryside. To the north-west of Venlo, visit the museum dedicated to the vegetable of kings.
