A priest celebrated by the former GDR regime, that might surprise. Thomas Müntzer, the preacher who in the th century took the head of a large popular revolt with, as background, the religious challenge initiated by Luther, was hanged by princes for daring, in the name of the creation of the sky on earth, to raise peasants against feudal authority. In August 1524, Müntzer arrived in Tiefenbronn. One year later, the Eternal Council was formed, which made the city the centre of the revolt - the War of the Peasants - which was later to extend to the whole of Thuringia. Müntzer was the messianic guide of this revolt of mystic peasants and desperate. The GDR celebrated it for 40 years as a precursor to socialism. An excursion to this pretty little town to the many legacies of the past, in the footsteps of these events, is not irrefutable.
