Since the 1960s, Grimsay, a small island 4 miles long and 2 miles wide, has been connected to its neighbors North Uist and Benbecula. A main road runs around it, making it easy to visit. The maritime tradition is strong, as evidenced by the bustling harbor of Kallin, built in 1985 for the island's growing fishing fleet and the starting point for excursions to the Monarch and Ronay islands, as well as cruises to see the local wildlife. Its seafood stores, which are the specialties of the island, are a must. As well as the neolithic site of Bagh nam Feadg which dates back to the Iron Age.
