Lavrio is a small port in southern Attica with a long history. The old neoclassical buildings in the town centre bear witness to this. It has had its hour of glory thanks to its mines, which have been exploited since ancient times, and then, at the end of the 19th century, by the French company, the Compagnie des Mines du Laurion. It is a pretty marina where sailboats from all over the world dock. The waterfront is a walking goal in itself. Α Opposite the town hall, the harbour becomes that of the fishermen. Further on, ferries provide crossings to islands like Kea or Tinos. The beaches start when you leave the city, on the coast towards Sounion or on the other side.
