28 km away, on the west coast, this impressive lake is bordered by a large promenade of sandy beaches. The artificial lagoon was opened in 1915 to create salt marshes. Around it, olive trees, black cedars and orchids contribute to the beautiful uniqueness of the local fauna. There are also shrimp farms. Walking from Issos and up the lake, one is generally quiet. In the other direction, there are the uncrowded beaches of Aghios Giorgios and Vitalades. The area is a natural and protected zone. A scene from the twelfth James Bond movie, For Your Eyes Only, was shot in the dunes.
