Relatively well preserved, the ancient city of Salamis (Σαλαμίνα in Greek, Salamis in Turkish and English) was the largest city in ancient Cyprus. The archaeological site, which stretches along a superb beach, is a must. Although the excavations are far from complete (especially under the dunes), the remains are the most spectacular on the island. The place also has a prominent place in the religious history of the country, since it was here that the Apostle Barnabas was martyred. As Nicosia is not far away, a day trip from the free zone of the country can be envisaged. Just before the entrance of the site, you will find the tavern, pleasant with its beach, but without gastronomic interest.
