In the heart of the Euganean Hills, this village owes its fame to the fact that the great poet Petrarch (1304-1374) settled here at the end of his life. Its position on the top of a hill favored human settlement since the Bronze Age, but it was under the lords of Padua, the Carrara family, in the 14th century, and under Venetian rule from the 15th century, that Arquà reached its peak. Considered "the pearl of the Euganean Hills", it can be visited during a trip from Padua or for a stay to discover the Regional Park of the Colli Euganei. The city is twinned with the French commune of Fontaine-de-Vaucluse.
