The ancient lighthouse of Procida, anchored alone on its rocky peak in the northwest of the island, gave its name to this small town. It is mainly residential, with several hotels and B&Bs as well as properties surrounded by gardens and orchards. The lighthouse, which used to signal the entrance to the passage between the island and Cape Misene, is now abandoned. The view from the Punta di Pioppeto is still very beautiful, with a panorama of the port and Terra Murata. Further west, the beach of Pozzovecchio is famous for having been the setting for a scene in the film Il Postino (The Postman, 1994) with Massimo Troisi and Philippe Noiret.
