An hour's drive north of Lillehammer, on the E6, lies the small village of Ringebu. Stop here to admire the beautiful 13th-century standing wooden church and the collection of paintings by Norwegian artist Jacob Weidemann. The town's name derives from the Old Norse Hringabú , the prefix of which means aring and the suffix bu, a village. The area is a popular tourist destination for locals who want to go skiing or tobogganing, as the teaching is often very good in winter. In fact, a special downhill track was created here for the 1994 Olympic Games!
