3,500 km² mountain area in south-central Norway, between Ottadalen, Gudbrandsdalen, Valdres and Sogn. This region is home to the highest mountains in Northern Europe: Galdhøpiggen (at Lom) measures 2,469 m and Glittertinden 2,464 m. Jotunheimen is also a 1,151 km² national park, created in December 1980. Jotunheimen is also a popular recreational area, with numerous marked trails.
