Located south-west of Oslo, on the road to the west, the small town of Kongsberg has a population of around 25,000 and was originally a mining town. Today, it is famous for its major jazz festival, held in early July (more info at www.kongsberg-jazzfestival.no). With its cultural life, university, sports culture (skiing and soccer) and cutting-edge businesses, Kongsberg is a city on the move. In October 2021, a 37-year-old Danish Islamist killed 5 people with a bow and arrow in a supermarket. It was the deadliest attack since the supremacist Breivik's attack in Utøya.
