Rjukan is a former industrial center, which prospered in the 20th century. Many interesting buildings were erected here, earning the town UNESCO World Heritage status. Rjukan is also located in the Hardangervidda National Park, at the foot of the Gaustatoppen mountain. It's the combination of this industrial concept (roads, buildings, networks, power lines) and the spectacular natural setting that surrounds it that has earned this working-class town a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is a perfect example of the global industrial model of the early 20thcentury .
