This charming medieval village, set in a sumptuous landscape of hills and wheat fields, typical of the Sienese ridge region, will delight travellers who want to get away from the tourist horde. It has a small archaeological museum with the remains of an Etruscan necropolis and a 12th century Romanesque church (Sant'Agata) built in travertine. Asciano is especially known for its surroundings, overlooking the valley of Ombrone, the abbey of Monte Oliveto Maggiore, mother abbey of the Olivetan Benedictine congregation, founded by St. Bernardo Tolomei in the fourteenth century, it is one of the most beautiful abbeys in Italy!
