This village was once the border post of the Nice-Cuneo railway, which explains the impressive size of its station, built in 1928 and marked by the Mussolini era. At the time of its full activity, it included an important depot and maintenance workshop for steam engines and railway spurs with a range of fifteen tracks. In the chapter of curiosities, or exploits - railway - it is interesting to note, if you go up from Nice to Tende by train, that the railway takes altitude, without needing to make loops in the valley. To return to the village, Saint-Dalmas-de-Tende is the starting point for excursions to the Mont Bégo and the Vallée des Merveilles. In the middle of a chestnut grove, at an altitude of 730 m, the village developed to house the families of the workers at the zinc and silver lead mine, located at the entrance to the Merveilles valley. Exploited since Antiquity, it remained in activity until 1927. After losing its initial vocation, the hamlet of La Minière de Vallauria was restored and redeveloped to accommodate cultural and sporting activities. The hydroelectric power station built in Saint-Dalmas in 1914 is one of the oldest and most important in the Nice region. It is fed by the important hydraulic potential of the Val des Merveilles territory in the upper Roya valley.
