The history of La Bollène is little known. We know that originally, in 1156, the village was called Abolena, deriving from the Provençal word for new land. The name of Bollène did not appear until the 14th century. The baroque church of Saint-Laurent was completed in 1725 and consecrated by Monsignor Recrosio on 26 July 1728. It was repaired and restored in 1862, then in 1891 after the earthquake of 15 January 1884. On the day of the earthquake, there was a lot of material damage, but no deaths. Since then, the town council has vowed to celebrate Saint Maur's Day on 15 January, to honour the protector of the people of Bollen.
