Lastres is a historical complex, with its feet in the Cantabrian Sea and its back against the mountain. And it was here that Charles V first set foot on Spanish soil. To appreciate this white hillside village, take a walk through the sloping streets of the Clock Quarter (del Reloj) and climb up to the chapel of San Roque. From here you will have an impressive view of both the small fishing port and the Sierra del Sueve. You can also visit the Buen Suceso chapel, which has a beautiful polychrome baroque altarpiece. The church of Santa María de Sabada is also worth a visit, as it preserves the Christ of the dying, from the 17th century. From its bell tower you can see the whole village. Dinosaur tracks can still be seen on the cliffs to the west of Lastres, and they can also be seen on the beach at La Griega, on the right bank of the estuary. For those who like to go hiking, there is a network of signposted paths and routes.
