Dominated by the high peaks of the Zanguézour, the quiet town of Sissian, about 30 km south of the Spendarian reservoir, lies on a high grassy plateau riddled with stones spattered by volcanoes extinct for millennia, but also erected in ancient times by man, as in the field of menhirs of Zohrats Kar, 2 km to the north. The town of Sissian itself is not of notable interest, except for the very elegant medieval church of St. John on the heights, one of the many testimonies of the past splendour of the province of Siounie in the surrounding area.
