From Goris, one has the choice between the eastern road, leading to Upper Karabagh, or the southern road leading to Kapan and Meghri. In this case, it is absolutely necessary to make a detour via Tatev, one of the most beautiful monasteries in Armenia, in a spectacular mountain setting. Tatev is only about 20 km southwest of Goris, as the crow flies. But it is with wings that one can go there since 2010, with the installation of a cable car, the longest in the world, which is the pride of the region and of Armenia.A cable car, named "Tatev Wings" (a play on words, a wing called tev in Armenian) by the Catholicos himself at its inauguration on October 16, 2010, is taking off from the locality of Halidzor, to fly over the Vorotan Gorge at a height of 320 m and gliding on a 5.7 km-long one-piece cable to reach in a few minutes the village of Tatev and its venerable fortified monastery, one of the jewels of Armenian medieval architecture. This technical feat has boosted tourism in Tatev and the region, but the winding road winding its way through the dizzying wooded slopes of the Vorotan and Tatev Gorge has lost none of its charm.
