Located 23 km north of Yerevan, on a vast plateau at the foot of Mount Ara, from where the Ararat is still visible, Eghvard has several interesting monuments. While the basilica and the 7th century church are very badly preserved, the funeral church of the Holy Mother of God (Sourp Asdvadzadzin), in the shape of a multi-tiered campanile, has reached us in a perfect state of preservation, all the better as it is one of the most original monuments in Armenia.
