Red Rock Canyon has been a protected area since 1990 within the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. This magnificent site features a series of red sandstone walls, the highest of which is nearly 300 meters higher than the park average - 1,141 meters above sea level at the Visitor Center. Other nearby formations, with white or yellow colors, contrast with their bright red. Although Bridge Mountain - 2,120 meters - is the highest point in the area, more impressive peaks can be seen in the adjacent Spring Mountains The area is a popular destination for residents of Las Vegas - 26 km away - and is one of the top climbing destinations in the United States. Every year, more than one million visitors cross the Scenic Drive. From the Visitor Center, this road provides access to the main points of interest in Red Rock Canyon and to the start of all day hikes. In fact, the 21 km (18 miles) of this road offers a great overview of the geology and flora of the Mojave Desert, as well as beautiful views of the surrounding area
