"Salt, sun, health", this is how the inhabitants define their town, while designating the three strong points of the local economy. This spa town originally named "Saline di Barletta" was renamed to honour the Queen of Italy, wife of King Umberto I. It is located on the Adriatic coast, east of Foggia. It is certainly exposed to the sun, but it has above all the merit of supplying about 70% of Italy's salt since its marshes were recognized as a "natural reserve" in 1977. The salt marshes are indeed among the largest in Europe (about 4,000 ha). Many species of birds, such as pink flamingos, can be found there.
