8 km west of Lecce, it is an agricultural village that lives from wine production and houses one of the largest palaces in the province of Lecce. Built by the Monteroni family as a small fortress for their protection, the palace became the property of the Lopez y Royo family, noblemen of Spanish origin. From Monteroni came Ignazio Falconieri, a priest who participated in social reforms during the Napoleonic occupation of Naples. He was beheaded when the Bourbons returned to power. Around Monteroni you can see ancient villas, such as Villa Carelli-Palombo, famous for its production of camphor trees.
