Corigliano d'Otranto has preserved for centuries the Greek dialect, as well as the Byzantine liturgical rites maintained until 1863. The village has two interesting historical buildings. First of all, the church of San Nicola, built in the 16th century on the foundations of a pre-existing chapel. The richly carved portal in Renaissance style and the bell tower dating from 1465 are noteworthy, while inside the church there are biblical scenes on the 19th century mosaic floor. Next is the Castello de' Monti, a castle rebuilt in the early 16th century after being destroyed by the Turks, with four powerful angular towers. In 1667 it received a beautiful baroque façade in white stone.
