Long ago, Rio Grande was known for its sugarcane plantations. Today, the El Yunque forest, the national park, is Puerto Rico's main attraction. About 45% of the island's most famous rainforest is located in the municipality of Rio Grande. This is why it is called the ciudad of El Yunque. El Yunque is located in the south of the PR-3 that goes around the eastern coast of the country, the northern part offers a different landscape to the visitor. Much flatter, this area is home to sumptuous hotels, restaurants, beautiful golf courses and some shops.
