Lake Walenstadt forms the border between the cantons of St. Gallen and Glarus. A beautiful, midnight-blue lake, it is relatively uncrowded. You can drive along the southern shore, but the view of the lake is blocked by the railroad. On the other hand, there are footpaths to discover the lake. The most beautiful and original way to explore the lake is to take the jetty at Murg, cross the lake and spend a day or more on the other side, on the north shore. This shore, completely roadless, has remained wild and beautiful. Beautiful views of the lake from the Bad Ragaz-Zurich freeway.
