Villach is located about 50 km west of Klagenfurt in the heart of the lake district and offers easy access to Italy and Slovenia. It is the second largest town in Carinthia in terms of size, culture and economy and was once a Roman settlement. For a long time it belonged to the Dukes of Bamberg, but was then bought by Empress Maria Theresa and became part of the Habsburg empire. It is a charming city appreciated by tourists both in the summer and winter seasons. The bathing pleasures, the beauty of the castle by the lake, the cultural and festive activity in season, are all assets of this charming base camp
