Búðardalur is one of those long-settled Icelandic lands, as evidenced by its mention in the Laxdæla Saga written in 1250. It's only fifteen minutes from Eiríksstaðir, the former seat of Erik the Red, another great figure in Icelandic history. Today, you'll find a village of 250 inhabitants not far from the mouth of the Laxá River. It has a bank, a supermarket, petrol pumps and a post office, as well as a campsite where you can stay during the high season... It's also a good place to stop before venturing into the north-western fjords.
